Is it me, or does nothing say "white trash cooking" more than an recipe for bread pudding with rum sauce that uses two dozen stale Krispy Kreme donuts and a can of fruit cocktail?

Just checking.

Blech.

Honey, that's from Paula Dean's show and nothing says white trash cooking like Paula's Home Cookin'. Bless her heart, if they outlawed butter and sugar she'd have to get a day job.

*laughs*

Even as I'm a fan of butter in dessert recipes myself, that assessment of the show is dead on: she'd probably die if she couldn't use a couple of pounds of butter in every single show. ;)

Oh, I don't know. My mum has a cookbook with two varieties of roast squirrle and one for stuffed pigeon.

Joy of Cooking (2nd edition) has recipes for squirrel and pigeon and other game, including directions on how to skin the little buggers. Now if that cookbook had a recipe for turning leftover Krystal hamburgers into a casserole - that would be trashy.

you know, i can't say that i even know what casserole *is*. then again, i think i've only had meatloaf once in my life... (my mother cooks by heating up microwavable meals, and maybe the occasional spaghetti or potato, the potatoes also done in the nuke.)

i assume casseroles are kind of like enchilladas without the tortillas, and baked in a pan. so i would guess that you could take the hamburgers, mash/chop them up, and bake them?

Page 66 of the first Book (I'm just here for the food)... =)

Ahh, college cooking. =)

That sounds absolutely nauseating.

Mind, I don't even understand why people like Krispy Kreme donuts... the few times I have tried them they had so much glaze, I could've just saved the money by eating a half cup of sugar out of the baking bucket at home.

When the glaze pings off the donut when you bite into it, and you suspect you could use it for window material.. that is a nasty donut.

Yes!

Finally, someone else complains about their glaze. Most people I know think I'm nuts for refusing any glazed donut that comes from Krispy Kreme (nut covered are ok, tho'). =P

I am speechless. KK donuts are SO not bread. (They're not donuts either, except by courtesy... but I digress.)

Just because I know how to cook gopher, possum, ratcoon, etc, does not mean I'm willing to do it. Why ruin perfectly good donuts? If they're stale, you can nuke them back to life.

If all you're after is a sugar rush, I've got a better KK/bread pudding recipe. (no, I haven't tried it yet)

1 doz. Krispy Kreme donuts, torn into a bowl
2 eggs
1 can evaporated milk

Mix and pour into a buttered baking dish. Bake at 350 (I forget for how long)
When done, let cool, cover and refrigerate overnight.

Glaze

one half box confectioner's sugar
one half stick butter
one tablespoon rum flavoring

cook in pot until sugar is disolved. Pour over pudding and serve.

One of these weekends, I'm gonna try it. Since I have a paycheck coming tomorrow with 22+ hrs of time-and-a-half on it, I may splurge.

I think it'd be more white-trashy with two dozen stale Dunkin Donuts.
