Yeah, yeah - some of you get to go to Scotland. *waves* Have fun storming the castle!
The Swiss Fair IS on Sunday, which means I'm on my own. BAH. I'm going to go kick something substantial because I was really hoping to get Jim out to actually see something Swiss for a change, instead of listening to me babble on about it - but NooOOOOOooo.
Okay.
It's in Whittier (that little part that would like to be part of City of Industry), 1905 Workman Mill Road (think near that new Fry's), Whittier CA 90601, and for info, call Lilo at (818) 240-0970. It starts at 11:00, ends at 7:00 PM, and I hope to make the most of it.
caitlin, would you like me to come get you? It's closer to you than to me, and I'll be driving anyway....
They say they're going to have raclette. Raclette in summer. Ooohkay.

Date: 2005-07-29 04:01 pm (UTC)That's like Migros putting Raclette cheese on sale during the hottest days we've had. I didn't quite get that...here, let's sell cheese that you're supposed to eat hot on a day when even a salad sounds too warm?!
But do they have fondue? :)

Date: 2005-07-29 08:30 pm (UTC)In Gruyere, I was served a wodge of cheese, bread, and a little thing that looked like a naked toaster - heating element, vertical, melted the cheese. I'm sure those are illegal here, but sitting outside on a perfect fall day in the ALps, gorgeous view, bread and melty cheese - mmmmmmmm.

Date: 2005-07-30 05:50 am (UTC)Athletics:
Swiss - Steinstossen and Schwingfest
Scottish - Caber tossing
Winner: Swiss. Come on. How can Schwingfest possibly lose?
Music: Vocal
Swiss - Yodelling
Scottish - Filk
Winner: Swiss. Too much filk is just bad fantasy set to worse music.
Music: Instrumental
Swiss - Alpenhorne
Scottish - Bagpipes
Winner: Scots. As cool as Alpenhorne are, bagpipes edge them out.
Animals:
Swiss - Bernese Mountain Dogs
Scottish - Hairy cows
Winner: Swiss. Unless we're talking about which one will be served for dinner.
Cuisine:
Swiss - Cheese
Scottish - Haggis
Winner: The winner should be quite apparent.
After comparing the two, I'm thinking I may have to head to Sugarcreek (http://www.sugarcreekohio.org/swissfestival.htm) this year.
