I read it last night and I could fathom it. Peter Jennings, gone, it just doesn't seem possible:(

I couldn't believe the dude was 67. I don't know, I just didn't think he was that old.

I heared last night on the news. I did not realize he had lung cancer. It's sad day indeed.

I listened to his 'announcement' when he said he had lung cancer when they repeated it this morning on NPR...

Even hearing it made my throat hurt.

*sigh*

Does anyone besides me remember "American Newsstand", the first time Peter Jennings was ABC's national anchor, back in the early '60s? The show came on immediately after "American Bandstand" (hence the name) and was an attempt on the part of the network to catch the interest of a younger demographic. As I recall, there were three anchors, Jennings, David Jayne, and one other person whose name, 40 years later, is in some unreachable part of my long-term memory. I seem to recall that the third anchor was Bill something - who was later killed execution-style while covering news in South America.
In any event - I will miss Peter Jennings. He was too young to go...

We have CNN on at work, so I saw it all day long. He is another cultural icon to me... He's that ubiquitous interviewer/newsman I think I will alaways think of when I think of the news...
