What you get when you apply the latest set of state-by-state approval ratings to the 2004 Red/Blue Election Map.
And if I'm not wrong, Nebraska is headed for the Blue column very soon.
2006 is coming. Yea, verily.

Date: 2005-08-22 08:00 pm (UTC)I was recently in the Ozarks (mostly southern Missouri, although we dodged across into Arkansas a few times), and I expected to see a lot of pro-Republican "patriotism" and so on.
What I did see was a hell of a lot of "Support our troops", yellow ribbons, "pray our troops come home safely" things, and shirts supporting a relative in the armed forces - but not a lot of specifically pro-administration stuff. And a lot fewer US flags than I expected, too. It was an interesting divide.
Here's hoping. Now if the Democrats can just mount a candidate who isn't a guaranteed loser... heck, there are some Republican potential opposition candidates making noise; I saw an article about some Republican US senator and potential candidate for the presidency criticizing the administration's Iraq policy/lack of exit strategy pretty sharply.
Quack, quack.
That's comforting

Date: 2005-08-22 09:10 pm (UTC)I hate to douse water on the parade here, but in the end... being it's the Summer of 2005 and not the Summer of 2006, this is just wishful thinking.

Date: 2005-08-23 03:45 am (UTC)Iowa currently has a system where the districts are setup by a non-partisan board who are mandated to make the districts as contiguous as possible. Ohio, who's closest Congressional race in 2004 was won by 17 points, has a ballot issue this November where we will get the same system if passed. Schwarzenegger is pushing for a similar initiative in California.
Kerry has nothing to do with the accuracy of the map. All it shows is how the states voted for Bush and what their opinion of him is now. It is strictly historical and does not attempt to make any interpretation of the data. That is entirely up to the viewer.
The GOP is on the ropes right now, especially here in Ohio. My own Congresswoman, Deb Pryce, who is the Chair of the House Republican Conference, told the Columbus Dispatch that she has never seen the GOP in so much trouble. 2006 is there for the Democrats to take; it all depends on if the national leadership takes the DLC "Republican-Lite" approach (which has consistently failed miserably) or the Paul Hackett "Let's bust some heads" attitude.
Hi!
Date: 2005-08-23 12:53 am (UTC)I've had a migrane for a year because of one. It's a really complicated situation to explain, but i heard of her through one of my lj-friends, Rabid_Mexican.
I know what they feel like. It's one of the most degrading and torturous feelings in the world.
Her LJ won't take comments, but tell her some stranger who's had a CSF-leak said hi, and i hope to all ends she gets better soon. :\
