Thank you for the link! Now I'm wishing I were back in an area where I could collect acorns; the California live oaks that dot the hills where I grew up produce bitter ones, but the Pomo had a way to mitigate that. I can get venison locally...

It's just the sort of thing I'd try, too, just for a lark. Oh, wait. Larks are in the medieval cookbooks, not in this recipe. :-)
