During oral arguments in September, Deputy Attorney General Eric Rucker said Kline only had subpoenaed the records as part of an investigation of failure to report child abuse from clinics that provide abortions. However, Kline said the abortion clinic subpoenas are just one part of a comprehensive investigation. Before Tuesday, Kline was unwilling to say if he was going to subpoena records from other providers that are required to report abuse. Of the 62 births he suspects are a result of child sexual assault, Kline said 30 of the girls were between the ages of 10 and 13. Of those 30 cases, no abuse reports were filed by their physicians, and Kline said he is not filing any charges against the doctors for failing to report, according to the Star. Records of live births do not need to be subpoenaed (Kansas City Star, 10/19).
Does anyone else there really NOT believe this guy is after "finding child predators?"
I smell smoke from another fire. Really really.
..
Oh, and can you just imagine trying to use these records to find anyone to prosecute? Uh, first thing they have to do is go interview the victims. Uh, yeah. The fact that you don't have any record of it should tell you something, dirtbag. *rolls eyes*

Try probably most of them ages 14-15.

Date: 2005-10-20 07:54 pm (UTC)I am unpopular among many people because I do not believe that below, say, age 16, a girl can give meaningful consent to have sex with a man in his 20's. If it's really love, he should be the responsible adult and wait.
But OTOH, you'd think there should automatically be an investigation when a 10-14 year old turns up pregnant, I mean - really. I'd bend even on age 15, actually, although I think doctors should ask some hard questions to be sure it wasn't abuse. After 16 I think kids are going to do what they want no matter what, I know I certainly did.
But I don't think protecting children is really what they are after here, considering at first they were planning to just look at abortion records.

Date: 2005-10-20 08:26 pm (UTC)Statistically, I'm betting most of these will fall in the age-range of the guy being 18 and the girl being 15.
Should that guy now be tagged as a child molester, even if there was consent?

Date: 2005-10-20 10:02 pm (UTC)If he's after predators, why doesn't he care about the underage girls who gave birth?
If doctors aren't doing their paperwork, there's got to be easier wasy to make them do it. I don't believe he's honest about his motivations, either.
