What a week
Oct. 10th, 2002 11:39 amThe inside of my mouth is sore. Could it be from all the scalding-hot Japanese food I partook last night?
Oh, very yes indeedy. It was good, dammit.
Ton Ten Ko is a new place we found last June when we were staying at the Courtyard in Hacienda Heights - it is a Japanese restaurant in the middle of the most Chinese place around, and the second biggest Korean place - if you hear Japanese, it's in the minority...and English is behind that.
We love this place.
It is tiny, crowded, decorated in early Pier-One and the sushi chefs never make eye contact with us - we get shuttled to a table, where we sit down and get cared for.
We come here a lot.
Sitting down, you are given your dishes (a tea mug, saucer, and a dipping saucer), and a dish of fresh pickles - usually carrots, cucumber and daikon. It's very lightly picked - mostly rice wine vinegar and a little sugar. We like them a lot - so they give us each a dish of them.
Then you order. Everything is good. Last night, Jim had the beef udon hot pot, and I had the beef teriyaki box. The miso soup was hot, the food was hot and my appetizer grilled fish was hot. Scalding.
Sooo good.
Your soft drinks come in cans, the bathroom is unisex and the lock is chancey - but so good.
Best part of yesterday? The HOA decided to file an insurance claim. Ha-CHA. No more lawyers. No more issues. Fuck Fran. Idiot. They hadn't even MET on the issues - and my house was flooded back in June!
