Work ate my Monday. Whole. And I've still got things on my to-do list, and some of them things I pointy-stabby-hate. Oh, well. That's why they call it work.

Saturday was noteable because I went out to go look for a couch - this place. And if you know me for very long, you know my absolute love for junking. Because that's exactly what it was. A fun-filled romp through a warehouse in downtown LA built in the naughts, if not the teens - decrepit, stocked with a family of four generations, the youngest fearlessly showing both of us her gameboy and her fascination with my rat necklace amazing.

Folks. You need cheap furniture quickly? Not very interested in perfect condition? Like "specimen" pieces you can refinish later? This is your kind of place.

I'm signing up for notifications on when they get new stuff in - I want the mini-bar, and a dorm-sized refrigerator. Oh, and patio furniture. Maybe I'll find the couch there. But it was a whole lotta fun!

Then we went to Little Tokyo, just north of the place.

And dived into Bunka-Do. Went upstairs, where they have all the anime laserdiscs I've been coveting for over 15 years.

Discovered they've finally decided to close them out. Marked down three times, they were taking 25% off the lowest marked price. Okay, so it's all raw - it's laserdiscs of some of my favorite stuff. Dudes, I scored the boxset of the last Patlabor OVAs...the first Patlabor movie...all of the Oh My Goddess OVA. Jim picked up some other things, I think all of the Macross Plus stuff. ([livejournal.com profile] bigbigtruck, is it worth going back for the Cowboy Bebop discs? They had all of them...and Escaflowne as well.)

Fresh-made mochi, still warm. Conveyor-belt sushi. Kitschy chopstick rests.

Mmmm. Saturday.

Sunday, I slept. A lot. After the mad dash first thing in the morning -

I keep forgetting that wonderful little fan fic [livejournal.com profile] tenshi_no_korin posted for KH2 last week or so. I watched Advent Children again (and dozing off in the middle of that is not something to brag about, it's a pathology), and kept remembering Jim hadn't seen the fic.

Brain skittering from one subject to another - and now, time to go.

More intelligence later. When the skittering stops, that is.

I know you're not asking me, but

Watching Cowboy Bebop on CN is not the same as watching it on DVD.

For one thing - no censorship on the latter. For another, being able to watch your favorite episodes (can't pick one, I have a handful of 'em) whenever you want = priceless

*nods* I have had that show entirely on VHS tape, and then rebought it on DVD the moment it was available.

Now. Do I want the laserdiscs as well? Hmmm.

Okay, I guess I got that wrong. I figured if you were going to buy the laser discs, you didn't have copies on DVD.

Anyhoo, since you already have it on DVD, I would look into whether the laserdiscs might contain things otherwise not released in DVD format, and go from there.

What else did that place have on LD and do they have a website? There's a couple of quirkier older shows that I'd love to get the R2 version of (Macross 7 for one...)

They don't have a website - this is one of the oldest, sincerely funkiest little stores in Little Tokyo. They have all the ceramics, books and kitsch downstairs - upstairs, they have all the music and laserdiscs, plus some of the accessories for traditional dress. Not the actual kimono, but the cords, hair combs and such.

It's staffed with a bunch of oba-sans. Look up the phone number using Yahoo Yellow Pages or the like and try calling them.
