Read the FL *before* you go to work -
May. 3rd, 2006 08:18 amOnce I'm there, I'm completely absent from LJ right now. Fair warning.
However. I took the time to get through the FL this morning, and guys? LINK CITY.
First off - it's Chris Reeve's Superman, Gene Hackman's Lex Luthor - with new actors, and it looks SEXAY - it's the new Superman movie trailers. Go take a look. (Damn, I miss Chris Reeve....) I may not do the comics like a lot of you, but I'll have always have a place in my heart for Superman.
I had a wild hare idea yesterday - it's going to be five years this November that I married
unclejimbo - why not do a backyard "do over" this year? I could ask
varna to bring the Deviants, and I could go to the taiko school over at UCLA and offer them the challenge of a lifetime. And I could have CAKE! It would be the BBQ of a lifetime!
I'm weird. I said it first.
However, here's some award-winning wedding photography. I'll get back to this later.
Off on another tangent? Anyone else out there make soap? Take a look at this variety - whipped soap. The crafter made snowmen she could hang on her Christmas tree - taking the soap on a rope gag just that much further....
I'm assuming you're old enough to look at nekkid pictures, folks. With that in mind,
theferrett posted this gem of a site for adult perusal. It's sweet. It's pretty. I thought of a number of people who probably would enjoy it - so there you go.
And with that, I poof.

Date: 2006-05-04 05:37 pm (UTC)Dude, you're talking about the South Bay. Home to the Beach Boys and a whole lotta surfers. A lot is relative - crash space? Isn't that the whole of Santa Monica, these days?
And like I'd do you guys on the cheap - gimme a break.
I'm thinking of closing down the block for the performance room. BLOCK PARTY!
This is sounding better all the time. Gimme a list. Be specific. (Crash space, seriously, would like be something with more bed space than I have in the house at this point - probably a hotel.)

Date: 2006-05-04 06:22 pm (UTC)*Chuckles* We're fairly easy. Air mattresses are good, and we can do hotels, too.
Not cheap alcohol, I tend to favor Captain Morgain's Private Stock, Merrick is SoCo, and the others have their favorites. Really, from experience, rum, vodka, a few random whatevers, and a lot of different sodas for mixers and it's a bar. Our people are experienced with running a bar for a decent number of guests. I suggest hand stamps for people old enough to drink. We also are used to carding at the gate. ;)
Block party, eh? We can do that. We'll need to know what the local regs are for performance... On the street is a bit different than the back yard. I'll see if I can't get ahold of some of the local fire performers there and find out what we're looking at. Shouldn't be too big a deal. If anything, it's usually just an okay from the fire marshall.
Actual list... Hmmm... We'll probably drive out, and that's just gas money, which I can cover since I'll have enough warning. Fuel for performance is pretty little, especially for one party. It's a couple of gallons of white gas, and a couple gallons of paraffin. And that will depend upon if you want to keep us running all night or what. We'll need to schedule in breaks for all of us if you're going to keep us running, so figure about 45 minutes onstage, 15 off, if we're running continually through the party. If the Deviants are throwing the party, then I can get you what goes into my budget, keeping in mind that I can't transport things like our Jello Pit, the Deviant tent, the carpets, etc. But we'd be WAY toning our parties down... We need fire pits and wood, a bar setup, and if we have something for carpet for our performers, that would be good. The Spitfires require our Safeties, access to dressing area, water on hand, at least a 16' square area clear - 10 for performance area, a minimum of 6' around that between us and the audience. We need a fueling area that we can use to soak out the tools, and a spinout area where we can get the excess fuel off the tools before lighting. Feed us while we're there, and give us alcohol, and we're cool.
I'll run it first past Merrick, then past the Spitfires at the next practice (Saturday) if it's something you really wanna look in to doing.
And you have to make Rey come. ;)

Date: 2006-05-05 02:34 pm (UTC)I hope you know I haven't forgotten you're ordained - if we want to renew vows, you're going to get tapped....
Okay - now to find some taiko drummers. This could get fun in a big way, very quickly....

Date: 2006-05-05 03:17 pm (UTC)I am indeed ordained. If you want to renew your vows, I can totally do it.
I spoke with Merrick last night, and he and I have general logistics of how to run a party in that kind of setting down... He's totally okay with it. :)
Oooooh... Taiko drummers...

Date: 2006-05-05 04:21 pm (UTC)November 1st is on a fucking Wednesday.
So much for little crack fantasies. There is no way I'd try this on weekday.
Better luck in five years, I guess.
