A US man arrested in Thailand is being held in connection with the murder of American child beauty queen JonBenet Ramsey, US officials say.

The man was first arrested on unrelated sex charges, officials said.

A Denver TV station says he confessed to details of the killing of JonBenet that were never made known to the public and will now return to the US.

The six-year-old was found strangled in the basement of her family home in 1996 in a case that sparked a media furore.

CBS has reported that the suspect is a 41-year-old second-grade schoolteacher.

It's on the Chicago Suntimes too. I think the only reason the BBC might have had it first is that they are on GST, and thus the press would have been alerted to it earlier than most US outfits...

I remember when the furor was in all the media, and some asshole was acusing the Ramseys of doing it on the air. I wonder if th efamily will now sue all the media for the hatchet job it did on them?

My local news ran a story with the clumsy lead in (over a picture of JonBenet) "JonBenet Arrest!". It made it look like they were arresting a dead six-year-old.

Generally, I see that word as "furor". Is "furore" a British spelling?

Considering the difference in spelling in that which separates the sidewalk from the street (you know that one, right?) - I'd have to say so.
