I'll let you know what he thinks.

What I find somewhat interesting is that people knew about this for some time - gay or whatever - long enough for me to go, "Wow, even as he got older, his preferences didn't change. He went for this particular age group - and didn't vary."

*applies brain bleach*

Predatory is as predatory does.

Now, to find another 12 hours in the day. That would be nice!

What would make your nephew's opinion more accurate than law and psychiatrists'? He may consider it pedophilia, but that doesn't make it so. Sure, it can be gross and disgusting, it's illegal many places, but no matter what you or he feels, it's not pedophilia.
It is a legal/medical term that simply does not apply to the situation. Foley is a gross creep and you may feel that his actions are those of a pedophile, but the term doesn't fit.

Predatory? Okay, but pedophile? Not if his thing is young men.
Yeah, young MEN, not children.
You may consider all persons under the age of 18 to be children, but they're not, and in far too many places they ARE considered adults, at least if they do something wrong.
Odd that. Act like an adult and you're considered a child. Do something irresponsible (aka,act like a child) that is illegal and you'll be treated as an adult.

Understand that I do not approve of Foley in any way/shape/form. I just don't understand your insisting that a word means something that it does not.

Speaking as someone who works for CPS...

In cases involving underage sex/pregnancy/whatnot. 13 is considered the unoffical boundary between persecuting someone as a Pedophile or Statutory Rape. It's not spelled out by the letter of the law, but it's VERY hard to get a conviction of pedophilia if the child invovled is over the age of 14.

In most clinical psych literature, Pedophilia is considered to be attracted to pre-pubecent children, meaning that it's their lack of adult sexual characteristics which make them appealing. By 13, children have at least reached most or all of their physical maturation, so a person being attracted to a 17 year old is not seeking a 'child' so much as a young, healthy partner. It's only been in the last few decades that it's been taboo to have a partner between the age of 14-18. As recent as the early 1900's that was considered prime marrying and child-bearing age.

I agree with you Bluemoon. Foley may be a sleaze and a creep, but as the facts stand now, he is not a pedophile.
