Here are two good things I found today.

How To Keep Hostile Jerks From Taking Over Your Online Community. This is the Cory Doctorow I met at the Book Fair - he thought I was fun, I thought he rocked and I have some really good stuff of his to read on the desk at home right now. Boy, it's good when your intuitions are right - and I hope we run into each other again, and I'll pay for the cup of coffee for it to boot. You get a chance, grab it with both hands - he's terrific.

You want to meet a friend somewhere for a chat? Pick two locations, and this site will chose a place equidistant to both of you. Locations default to coffee shops. This officially qualifies as NEAT.

Hopefully you already know about http://boingboing.net/ -- a multi-person blog that Cory contributes to. But just in case you don't...

I did - I do - and I think it earned me some brownie points when I got to talk to him. *winks*

Thanks for the coffee shop thingee--we have friends spread out accross the greater Toronto area, and to sort of "fair it up" for everybody is a blessing! Thanks. And I promise, no more fighting with your LJ friends.

...Unless it's Dwinghy.

Should you and I stage a fight just to satisfy the blood lust of the easily-confused? I think you've raised some hopes, and I hate to disappoint.

...well, not really.

Project? Sounds cool!
Which friend was reading? What did she read?
I was just there tasting the beer, tasting the cheese (and the wine) buying books, and hanging in the bar.
I had a SPECTACULAR time and can't wait to go back!
Did you attend the tastings?

HA HA HA! I was at Ad Astra for the "author idol" or something like that. I have a few friends who write for a bobby or for a living, and they entered as a favour to Sandra, who runs it. The stories were all in all pretty good, though I actually found the judges not too swift--they missed the point of a couple of stories altogether, and they had a really really narrow parameter of what a prose was.

So are you lookingfor gossip really" Cause I am the dude to ltalk to. I was married to Dwinghy for ten long years. Ten years of heartache, anger and frustration. Mostly hers. HA HA!

Here is a couple things you could let the world know;

Dwinghy is not her real name.

She is quite short, just about four foot nine or so.

She loves the whaddya call it, the "anime"? That Chinese animation? She is all about that. She actually hooked up with a dude who runs a Sailor Moon club in Texas, or Kentucky or something like that.

She rejects Jesus, and is part of the cult responsible for his death. That's right...Dwinghy is a Methodist.

And last but not leas, once she killed a dude, and paid off the cops to bury it.

Hope that heps. ANy idea why they stopped calling Toronto Trek Toronto Trek? It's called "polaris" now. Is it just becuase Trek aint as poular as it used to be?

I'd never heard of Polaris. Heck, I'd never heard of Ad Astra before late last year when my New York City gaming buddies told me they were going, and I knew it would be a weekend of laughing my butt off. The three of us are just an ethnic joke waiting to happen: an Irish Catholic, a German-Tanzanian, and a lapsed Lubovitch Jew.

Gossip is not my scene, but cheese and beer are. Next year you should check out the tastings! I am hoping they bring back the chocolate tasting that they skipped last year.

I haven't been to Ad Astra in years--The con thing was never my thing. But I had friends who were. It's shrunk pretty bad since it's hey day in the early nineties.

But small also means a pretty tight community, which is what it seems to have become. It makes for slightly more "homey" kind of con, rather than a giant money grab.

If you write a letter, and say you are from out of town and enjoyed it, they would bring back chocolate, espacially if it means good old Yankee Dollars. Okay the dollar is at par right now, but still.

(pssst, dude)

Yes, I am a friend of bitpig.

I did not realize that I was stepping onto someone else's turf, but apparently I am, so I'm just going to disappear back over to my little part of the bloggyworld. I wish you the best of luck on your adoption!

Or bad-mouthing you in a public forum. Got it.

Possibly.

I know Dwinghy well enough to know that there was obviously more between these two than two lone posts. I couldn't say what, But I know Dwinghy. I know this is shocking to some, but entire lives happen off of the interweb. Entire relationships occur and sour, without one word on about it on Live Journal.

Dwinghy wrote me an email to apologize and explain her behavior, and I believe she wrote one to you too. You just responded with an (admittedly) funny line about "stupid Juice", and disregarded her explanation. Without taking sides, I believe DRLAURAC understands the problem well enough. My relationship with DRLAURAC is not Dwinghy's, but I understand the dynamics.I think DWINGHY's response was at worst innapropriate, but understandable given the circumstances of their relationship, and it's long term level of toxicity.

And "stupid juice" is not a very nice thing to say.

And if you ever seriously felt any of this string was innapropriate, you could have deleted any of these comments at any time.

As you may have noticed, I have taken you off my FL. Could you Please do me the same?

Thank you.

Wow. Don't look now, but any stupid juice comments weren't directed at you specifically. At least put some trust in me that if I wanted to direct something cruel and insulting your way, I'd direct it at you, by name.

It's also pretty mindblowing to say something about entire lives happening off LJ, and then get peeved when I don't respond johnny-on-the-spot, or fast enough for comfort. HELLO, WORK FOLLOWED ME HOME LAST NIGHT. I blame the stupid juice. There's been plenty to go around, both here and there.

No, I hadn't noticed. I just got finished composing a reply to dwinghy - I took my time, like Mister Rogers - hope I got it right.

Honestly. If you feel you need to take these steps, take them - I applaud you for it. You're taking care of yourself first, and I'm all good with that. People come, and people go around here - I don't take offense just by being put on and taken off the FL.

There's more to you than this one facet - that's why I put you on the list in the first place. I'm going to ask - nicely - to allow the dust to settle, then look at this again. I still think you're okay.

Me, I'm going to JPL for their Open House. If I don't pull myself away from this thing, I'll never get there and it's only once a year. Hope you understand.

See you in 24 -

I read link #1 a while back - man, I really wish more forums were moderated like Something Awful. There's a set of concrete rules, but you can also be banned for just generally being a douchebag, jerk, or stupid. One of my favorite web forums has recently gone to crap for lack of harsh moderation.

Confirm or deny, if you will - did someone put stupid juice in the water supply this week?
