It might have been a good idea before this latest go-round with the current funding bill, but it won't work after.

I've got four words for you: "Tax-and-Spend Democrats". The phrase hasn't been used for a while, but the underlying idea's still out there to be exploited by Republicans.

They'll just paint this as Democrats trying to look like they're supporting the troops by proposing a funding bill we don't need, just so they can raise taxes.

As an alternative, it might have worked. As a supplemental bill, it's just begging to be painted in a bad light, in my opinion.
