Sep. 24th, 2007 12:21 pmToo many tabs open, jotting them down here for follow up -
This Woman's Work - one the lastest posts involved the adoptive parent's place in an adoptee's search for biological parents.
Adopted:The Movie.
Anti-Racist Parent.
Racialicious - one of the latest posts is on black male hurt, but I couldn't help but quote this:
For the last nine months of my life I have felt a great deal of unsatisfactoriness. My post-collegiate life has at times seemed more aimless than it has ever been, I’m coming away from a brutal three year relationship, and I work from home, in a void of social interaction or human touch. Most of the worst daily hurt has gone away, but sometimes it visits me at the wrong moments.
Is this truly specific to a specific sexist or racist state? Because the next thing that's mentioned? "Where does a black male go to cry?"
Dude, I think we all go someplace - and I don't think there's a white one and a colored one.
New Demographic - a reasonable approach to racism training, and I think I'm going to suggest my HR department here take a look at them.
A very .. uncomfortable photo essay with an even more uncomfortable agenda. Sexist as HELL. (Then toss in the filip of white men with asian girls....*shudder*...nevermind these are their fathers.)
Forgiveness is being able to accept another person for being human and fallible. An incredible story.

I can easily say that... no, it's not limited to black males.
I think I go through that on a near weekly basis.... not so much anymore, but it used to be... and it wasn't a "brutal three year relationship" so much as a brutal "all my life" relationship with my parents and such.
And there are days where I wonder if I'm not going to totally screw things up and get dumped out on my arse.
*looks for the other shoe*

Date: 2007-09-24 10:14 pm (UTC)Keep in mind, I don't have sound here at work, but I doubt I need it.
It definitely begs the question - who had the camera, and how did a news organization get a hold of it? And why?
Boy the comments certainly have a distinct...smell. Porkish.

Date: 2007-09-25 03:26 am (UTC)One, I had to Google the name of the mother to get ANY idea where this was done. (Norfolk, VA.) And then found the original story - and an update:
Norfolk Police say they've identified three of the people seen beating a 13-year-old in a videotape shown to WAVY.com by the victim's mother.
According to a spokesperson, Investigators from the Gang Squad have identified 3 of the suspects, and are in the process of identifying the other individuals involved.
They say charges will be filed against all of those involved. They also say that the victim, Damien O'Rourke, knew at least one of the assailants. Police said investigators are also trying to determine what circumstances occurred leading up to the assault.
They also said that, contrary to some statements, the assault does not appear to be racially motivated according to information gathered by investigators that we are unable to release.
Dude, stay tuned. And don't get baited by lying liars so easily.
(And again I say - WHO BROUGHT A VIDEOCAMERA TO A FIGHT?)
