That about covers it.

Slept like the dead last night - that whole thing about invasion of my personal space? I guess I had enough of that growing up that I cope with not much more than a shrug. Dude, nobody gets any more of me than I want to give 'em. Space, stuff, whatever. Slept like the dead. I was pooped.

No, we didn't lose enough to make the deductible. No payout from insurance. No surprise.

Yes, I am taking some additional steps - like rekeying the house, even though I have no reason to think any of the house keys are missing. I'm also going to hide a key someplace I can find it without breaking into the house when I lock myself out. I knew how easy it was to get into the house - and part of it was because I needed it that easy to get into without a key because I'm a dork.

I think I know exactly what is missing. If I find other things gone, they're gone. Vaya con Dios, all that jazz.

It's just stuff. And nobody got hurt or died - the cats didn't even get out.

It's my karma, and it was good karma. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

I'm sorry you were robbed. I only wish you or someone had been there with a gun to ventilate the thieving scum who victimized you.

As a society, we are going to eventually have to deal with the growing population of feral humans. Honest people cannot be abandoned to become prey in their own homes. The crackdown, when it finally comes, will not be pretty.

If we can do anything to help, please e-mail me privately.

My weapon of choice is the big-ass Mag-lite, thanks. A gun in this situation would only have made a relatively asstastic situation lethal. Not necessary, and I just don't have the killer instinct. But, thanks.

Feral is a pretty strong word - but I wouldn't limit to people without money. You can steal a lot more from a person than their ready cash, things they can't get back.

Lives, for one thing. Their children, for another.

There's a reason there's a commandment against stealing...or coveting someone else's stuff. It's not new, neh?

I'm glad it wasn't much worse than a sense of violation (though that is awful; beentheredonethat) I'm glad that perhaps most important of all, you and yours remain intact.

As I said, it's baby poo compared to the things I've been asked to manage that couldn't be changed or averted. It's stuff - and there really is something liberating about knowing you can do without your stuff and still be you, yanno?

It sucks to get robbed. We came home to our apartment in Houston one day, and a door was nailed over the front window because the window had been busted in the course of the theft. We eventually got the stuff back, because they set off the alarm when they left, and a security guy got their license, and the police picked them up when they went to pawn the stuff.

Jumping to another oft-told tale, I still say that Cathy should have let me buy that used chainsaw. A man's gotta defend his home. I'm betting that a burglar hearing me fire that baby up would just leave quietly by the nearest exit.

Re-keying the house is a good idea.

Even with nothing missing...it's the invasion that sticks.

Being stolen from sucks. There's my Obvious Statement of the Day.

A keybox somewhere is a good way to hide your keys but not make them E-Z to get.

I'm trying to figure out what form the box should take, and where I can put it where 1) I can get to it and 2) nobody else would ever guess what it is.
