Others, you're the bug.

The tech at home is just hating me. Second ethernet bridge to come into the house defective - nearly obsolete tech to begin with, can't be entirely surprised.

Anyone with an old Mac tower - using an ethernet bridge to get connectivity to a wireless router - got one they love and would buy again?

I've bought two Linksys products so far. Methinks Netgear is going to get some attention now.

I have, by this time, tried most of the models from all of the manufacturers that I can find anywhere nearby (Fry's, Best Buy, etc). I have come to the conclusion that there are no consumer wireless routers anywhere which are not complete and utter crap.

Every single one I've owned has died on me in one way or another within a year (Netgear have actually been some of the worst for me). The only reliable options I know of are commercial equipment, but that's all pay-through-the-nose stuff..

I'm currently looking at building my own from parts gotten from Metrix. Really cool stuff (and reasonably priced), with lots of possibilities, but does take a little bit of geek DIY skills..

I understand the Linksys routers work fine once you upgrade them to OpenWRT. You'd need to check the hardware compatibility list.

from what I remember, Linksys routers have issues with mac computers and don't tend to get along.

Either you suck it up and buy an airport (which do work well with PCs, if I remember correctly), or, better solution, try a d-link. Though results vary, none of my computers have ever had trouble with my cheap d-link router.

Is wireless necessary? We even gave up on using wireless routers, because they were extremely unreliable, and or came out of the box broken. Nothing wrong with a little ethernet cable.
