Sheeyit. I'm going to go get the instructor class in, and see if I can't get some extra income in teaching these stupid classes.

I certainly helped teach that one.

Go teach! People need to learn first aid. Especially care-givers. Just the other day I saw a little girl at a food court splash hot soup on herself. It wasn't very bad, just frightening and painful, but the way the mother reacted was so woefully inadequate.

First she wrung her hands, freaked out, and then started rubbing at the area with a mini-towel. I went over and tried to calm her down and suggested maybe she wanted to pour some cold water on it? I tried not to hang around (I didn't feel entirely welcome), and in any case, it was just a minor scald.

While I was walking away, a old man went up to her and offered her medicated oil (highly mentholated), which she then proceeded to rub vigorously into the child's arm.

I was like, "Aaaah! Have to leave now before I karate kick somebody in the head!" I don't think it caused any harm, but imagine if it had been a bad scald. I really would have karate kicked someone.

Still, I think half the point of knowing basic first aid is keeping calm and having a calming effect on whoever you're trying to help.

Which reminds me, I really ought to go update myself. It's been more than 15 years since I was in the St John's Brigade.
