I am reminded nearly daily of some of the perks from the new gig. Well, it's hard to ignore.

One, music is turning out to be a HUGE bonding point. Everyone loves it - shares it - and wants to know more. I've got some Iron Butterfly that I haven't had since the fire in 1974 - and the netops guys are showing me some RUSH-like stuff that is pretty damn tasty. I brought the CD wallet of doom in one day, and they paged through it without laughing at me - did note the Manilow-heavy quantity, but just shrugged it off - 'you like vocalists' was the conclusion.

Then there is getting to work in the morning. I've told you the place is next door to a See's Candy factory, right?

I get to work in the morning to the wonderful smell of hot chocolate - all the time. If I want, I can walk over to browse the store - and get my free sample every time. They know us there, of course and if they've already sampled us? They let me chose my sample last time. Free chocolate. And I get to pick it myself?

It also doesn't hurt that we make damn gorgeous shoes, either. Now, they only make women's shoes and largely fashion only at that - nearly - so it's a different market. (I've also gotten a good look at the sample graveyard and DAYIM the ones that didn't make it would be a designer's master study all by itself - the bad is just incredible to the point of hysterical.)

But I also grieve the loss of the old gig. I miss my guys terribly - and still run over the last weeks trying to resolve the WTF that lingers. I think it's grief that makes me do it - no, I didn't ask for it, want it...but the denial was incredible at the same time. And both the companies? Yup - they've done business with each other - new gig has done some private label for the old one. When I finally get comfortable enough to talk about it with the new gig, I wonder what they'll say. I wonder if that time will ever come, at the same time.

Two months and ten days to go.
