What am I doing? Nothing.

No, really. Not a damn thing.

Okay, there's a Curry House run scheduled for tonight - but that's about the limit. I've bought myself some new clothes, anime and gadgets.

But the social calendar couldn't give a damn less.

Thanksgiving, we are also completely open - unless you count being exhausted, which means we probably won't be planning a damn thing then either.

I hope this kinda changes before Christmas and New Years - yanno - the fun times, right?

Could this get any more classic.

My 50th birthday is next Sunday.

This last Saturday, I *had* to take the cats in to be de-flea'd. This was beyond heinous and the moment funds were available, had to take precedence. Did not think this is a trip for the whole family and told Jim that. His mouth made the 'oh' shape and assured me he could find something else for him and kid to do.

When they get home (because I beat them there, three cats in carriers and all), I am accosted by a small child flailing around a BRIGHT red bag, who shows it to me and then takes each item out of it, one at a time, say 'here, here and HERE' as he empties my anniversary present into my lap. Um, no gift wrap next time Dad? "Here's your surprise Mommy!"

It's a very red billfold I have yet to move my existing wallet contents over to, but that's coming. This is the ninth anniversary - leather is appropriate.

It would also appear that they got my birthday present as well because when Jim tried to head him off, "Don't tell Mommy about - " his reward was "No, I won't tell Mommy it's a IPOD because IT'S A SEKRIT!"

Cut to Jim, mortified, me laughing. I just stop laughing long enough to tell Jim one more time that five is just not there yet cognitively to understand secrets and such. Sure looks like it, but no. Not yet.

Sunday afternoon, he was very sure I knew it was an iPod and that it's RED. And that it was a SEKRIT, Mommy. Oh very yes, darling. It's a total secret, you and me baby. Uh huh.

So I suspect iPod accessories and application suggestions will be welcome. *laughs*

I'll put this out there, because if you don't ask, you don't get - but this is the big five-o next Sunday and some funds have arrived just in time for me to punt and figure out what I can do with only three days to plan it. I'm thinking tiki crawl. I'm thinking bowling.

I have wishlists everywhere.

First up, [livejournal.com profile] shadesong has published her annual mall of wonders and I don't see anything there I wouldn't love. Really really.

I have ordered myself somethings off my Amazon Wish List - one of them had been there since 2003. Here, have a look. Filter the 'purchased items' if you would, while you're at it.

The wish list over at ThinkGeek is under kyburg AT earthlink DOT com.

The wish list over at JList? Probably has it under kyburg AT gmail DOT com. Can't tell because the server they use to host images? Oh mi GHAD my firewall at work thinks that's the most ebilist PR0N site on the nets, just saying.

It's a secret.

DO NOT FEEL OBLIGATED.

In all honesty, I'd be delighted if you stopped smoking. Yes, again. Send some bucks to ModestNeeds.org, shoot.

I've already made the command decision that kid will be in care Sunday night.

It's Monday. My last week in my forties. Feels a lot like the last week of my thirties, you want my opinion.

I'm beginning to think renting space for this shindig makes more sense than shoehorning everything into the street outside my house.

I'm beginning to think that trying to stake out space in a local park doesn't make sense.

I'm beginning to think that the Japanese-American Cultural Center in Little Tokyo has just the digs I'm needing. They even pulled catering trucks into the plaza this year during Nisei Week, and that worked out like nobody's business.

Could do the same. Could ask some of the taiko groups back, and gee - they already know their sets and the venue.

So that's food and entertainment, plus location. Cake is still up for grabs.

But the cost to do this? You'd think I was getting married again or something.

If the insurance reimbursement comes through - yeah, this might be okay. If not - oh hell, no - if I can't justify Disneyland, I sure as hell can't justify THIS.

And I may end up with a hot dog at Costco for my trouble as it stands. I mean, I could throw the biggest party on the block, but who would come? Who could? We're firmly talking two weeks before Thanksgiving here, folks. Ya may be fond of me, but it's the holidays.

Just hang in there a bit longer, guys. I'll only be this selfish for a while longer.

I'm going to put my bids in early.

You got time, you're going to be in Los Angeles November 14th this year, save the date for me.

Wish Lists? Building them as we speak. Here. For your persual:

Amazon
JList (Because I can get just about everything else myself)
ThinkGeek

For you guys?

So far, the plan involves a lot of noise and dancing. Most of my musical folks are going to be in Portland, so can't ask them - and I haven't decided on a venue yet, which might be fun in an of itself if it ends up being Dockweiler again.

But the boy has been birthday'd - it's coming up my turn now.

NOT GOING QUIETLY.

No, I haven't been here since Thursday. The weekend went well, but there were things on the list that got jettisoned - and not being on the intarnets? Prime - first thing to go. I have people to socialize with, take sightseeing, play with and yeah - so I catch up with you now. (Anything I should know?)

There are pictures, and I'm sure there will be more tonight so - wait for them.

I have a very happy five year old today. If he manages not to jump out of his skin at school today, I will consider it a completely successful mission.

Dinner tonight is at Buffalo Wild Wings, which reminds me. (Gotta call 'em.)

We managed Nisei Week on Saturday, King's Hawaiian (and Park Time) on Sunday - with the most AWESOME kid's birthday on record at My Gym in the afternoon, EVAR - he's got two laundry baskets FULL of presents to open when he gets home tonight.

(Unfortunately, someone thought a lightsaber was a great gift - which means he gets The Talk about weapons before he gets access to his own present, FAIL, but that's what The Mommy is for. 9_9)

I also do believe my kid is smitten for an older woman. She's 10 and they bonded over Pokemon. Ah, youth. *laughs* He wants playdates. She's going to Scotland with her family for a vacation. Ah, love will wait for her return. (And I predict the teachers at school are going to wonder where the sudden interest in Scotland came from.)

My sister wants him for an overnight stay - and other kids want playdates - and is it possible that we might get time during waking hours, not at work, where he is doing something - and we might not be needed every waking moment? That would be different. It might also be awesome - for every kind of reason.

People got a good look at my evenings Saturday night. Yes, it does suck that loud. *shrug* You do what works, it often means shaving off pieces to make it fit. That's cryptic and it can stay that way.

I swore up and down the kid would thud on the way home from his party. Nope. Too hungry. He got a full dinner down, a bath, television - the only concession was no book reading, just a story in bed. THEN, the thuddage occurred. I haven't seen him sleep that soundly in a very, very long time. Only one call of nature during the night - compared to last year? This is also very reassuring. Woke up happy and ready to go - which is also different.

Best Birthday ever.

So much more - but I have to go get fed or I'll fall over. Catch up some more soon -

Well, it's the answer plus six. I'll take it.

Next year, I'll have had kid for nearly a year - wonder what that's going to look like.

Hope I'm not dead by then.

Locals, pay attention. This year it is all about the eating.

Friday is actually my birthday - but the owner of the restaurant chosen for that night also owns a few other locations in town - and Saturday, they're having a celebration of their own and making the BEST ramen in town for $3 a pop, so the natural course of events is taking over.

Yakitori on Friday. Here. Aiming for 7:00 PM.

Ramen on Saturday. Here. Maybe a tad earier - depends. Need to get more details on the anniversary special.

Shabu-Shabu on Sunday. Here. Gotta wait for Jim to get home from work - so probably 7 or so again.

You can make it, show up. Matter of fact, tell me now and I'll try to get reservations for what I can. Ramen is a gimme - no effing way with the special on. Expect a wait and live entertainment anyway we can make it happen.

And yeah, I have one of these:

My Amazon.com Wish List

Buuut - don't feel obligated. It's a lean year and just having friendly faces around will be enough. I have a job - that's present enough this year.
