Here's my answers to her questions.

1. Tea or coffee?

Yes, please. It's not unusual to see me slurping down coffee ice cream with iced tea in the summer and I can get overclocked enough the rest of the time to have brought something in from Starbucks and then make a cup of tea to sit down to the computer with. Tea or coffee-flavored things? YUM. One my favorite things in Taiwan was the butter cookies with black tea baked into them. And I mentioned the coffee ice cream - I also have a very adult recipe for black walnut and coffee cheesecake that I make on occasion.

2. If you could visit anywhere in the world for a vacation someone else was paying for, but it would only last three days, where would you go?

This assumes the travel time is NOT included. ^^

Hrm. I think seeing a midnight sun would be just about right - just let me get there, soak it up for those three days and I could go home with one more thing off the bucket list. Finland, Norway, Sweden or Spitzbergen would do. Iceland? Sure. North Korea if I want to be an Irwin about it.

3. What's the oldest thing you own?

Hang on, I've inherited a thing or two. *taps chin* I think the piano is the oldest thing, being made in 1907, but it's possible I have some porcelain or glass that is older and it's hard to tell. After that, it's the dressers in the kid's room, they've been dated to the 19-teens and twenties. I have a bit of jewelry that dates approximately that time as well. After three house fires and two burglaries, that's not bad!

OH WAIT. I have one of Cliff's medieval coins around here - that's 1400-1700's (I'll have to go check). That's the oldest thing.

4. If you're going on a long trip via airplane or bus or some other means of transport where you don't have to be at the helm, do you bring reading material with you or something else to occupy you? And if it's reading material, is it the same sort of thing you'd normally read, or do you have any kind of special category for 'airport books' or the like?

I pack a different kit these days, based on who I'm travelling with. If I have kid with me? I'm packing things to keep him occupied, and very short things to entertain myself. For the KY trip, I spent most of my time playing on the DS because it had short spans of attention required and could be put down quickly at need. A good book is considerably harder to stop and pick up again. I took seven books, knitting and the DS on the KY trip. Four of the books and the knitting never got touched. I had specifically bought some trashy romance novels at the book fair in April with this trip in mind, planning to romp through and discard - what I hadn't anticipated was how FAST the romp was and my general 'that's ALL?' response I had to them. A Harlequin Romance should NOT last only fifteen minutes, guys. But I dropped them at the Goodwill in Berea with a clear conscience.

I had bought 'The Joy Luck Club' at LAX on my way to Greece that fateful trip, not having packed anything more in my backpack. It would come in handy during the strike where I figured I'd re-read it more than 12 times before we left the country.

I've had 'broaden, diversify, educate' drilled into me so thoroughly I rarely pick up a SF or fantasy book at airports. I'm far more likely to pick up a typical fiction novel (last one was 'Eat, Pray, Love' and was bored senseless) instead.

5. One major area of study you'd like to learn more about?

Oh man. If I had nothing else requiring my time to earn a living? I'd be learning languages well enough to live in them, throwing pots on a wheel again and finding someone to teach me how to do stained glass. Swear someone AWESOME to secrecy and learn how to sing.

And in my spare time, build the house of my dreams.

Blame [livejournal.com profile] technoshaman.

a. List seven habits/quirks/facts about yourself.
b. Tag seven people to do the same.
c. Do not tag the person who tagged you or say that you tag "whoever wants to do it".
d. even if I tag you, you don't gotta do it, but I'll be curious to see your answers!

Yo. I'm hip. (BTW, I love the way this tends to make my FL circles overlap just that little bit...although nobody could really say I needed one more prompt to do a post.)

1. I've taken the whole suite of secretarial courses, including shorthand, which I tossed immediately and made up my own. Really should go back and refresh the whole accounting thang...someday. (Typing speed still near 90WPM, thanks for asking.)

2. I essentially grew up in the hospital Mom worked in. I was also born there. I double dog dare ANYONE to get me turned completely around in a hospital...or keep me from getting in anywhere I truly need to go. I also know where the food and blankets are. Really really.

3. I have a scary memory at times. I can remember JFK's assassination, for example and I was *just* three years old. It's not always a blessing. I remember the bad stuff as completely as the good, mind. I also know that my memory does NOT store music well - I have to relisten to things to get the whole experience, but only remember the basic tunes, words and that I really LIKED something and should listen to it again. Not in stereo, not in detail - that much I can tell. That's how minute my memory works.

4. My favorite cars have always been big enough to live in. To this day, if I could have an International Travel-all from 1962, I'd take it in a red-hot second and then try to make it solar-powered.

5. I'm very loosely-jointed and can still bend fingers backwards. Stretching always sounds like a zipper. I'm fine. I just wig out the massage folks on a regular basis. (Broken! No. Honest.)

6. I have more coffee/tea mugs than any sane person should. I keep getting more. I like them.

7. I prefer cast-iron skillets and aluminum baseball bats as weapons. Mag-lites work, too.

Tag Seven. Oh boy.
