As in, wrap me up and cart me away in a straightjacket. Where DO I begin....

All that baking? Mom had tasked Sis to do the exact same list. Yup. Doubled up on just about everything except the pies - and the side dishes. Oh yeah, and the wine.

It took FOUR HOURS to get there on Thursday. That drive, I allow two for on a bad day. (For that, I could have flown to Hawaii or New York. Driven most of the way to San Francisco. It wasn't a good way to pass the time, thinking about it.)

We hit the door, ran like mad things getting the side dishes done and dinner served. A bit late, but it was done.

I brought three bottles of wine. It was GONE...like why is it GONE gone...in less than two hours. Shoulda brought something stronger.

And I spent the night in a hotel with the hardest bed I think I can remember. The hot water wasnt't, the tub stopper didn't and some of the lights weren't. Best part of it was the Starbucks across the street - I've seen some sad continental breakfasts in my day, but the 'roll' and coffee/orange juice the hotel served was worse than anything I've ever seen. I really wanted to like them - really I did. The Starbucks was alone in a huge shopping mall that once had an Albertsons in it. I think it, and the auto parts store were the only ones left.

I can remember when it used to be the county fairgrounds. "Look Jim, remember when I told you about the time the Spider fell apart and tossed cars into traffic on Florida Avenue? Right there, outside the hotel!" Good times.

I spent the day Friday out there, ostensibly to have some time with my Mom. What I got was a working man's vacation.

The cell phone rang as we left the hotel - brother's lady has this cat, y'see, that they MUST find a placement for immediately. WHERE DO WE GO WHAT - hang on, I got this one. Let me get to the house, set up the laptop and go to work.

...and so I did. Now, it was a good exercise as I now know where I can place four more cats, should the need arise. But there's a couple of catches. One, the place is Beaumont. Two, she requires a relinquishment fee - which I love - of $100. The cat stays until placement in a group home, and she doesn't take more than 10 at a time. With Thunder, she has six right now.

Took me an hour, using Petfinder.com

Took the laptop down, set up the sewing machine.

Made Mom some flannel pads - have adaptive equipment, need adjustments - took the sewing machine down.

Took everyone out to lunch, then took the grand-nephew to ball practice. Took three boxes of used books to the hospital auxilary. Went shopping at Henry's (their bulk stuff is the BEST) but quickly came to the conclusion that the fruitcake is too expensive to make this year.

Picked up boy from ball practice. Hung out a bit with Mom, talking about older brother (and got some information, nothing new, sadly and no idea if or when resolution could happen) - then took boy home - and went home ourselves.

Arrival time? 6:30 or so.

Saturday was blown wearing jammies until dinner time - which started out at 7:00 and due to the wait, ended up being around 11:00. (HALF PRICE SALE YO.)

Found out about Blitzen Trapper concert on Sunday - allowed my good sense to take a vacation on Saturday night (WANNA GO) and had it slap me senseless on Sunday afternoon. (*shakes fist*) Who am I kidding - only place I'm going is crazy until next year.

Sunday, I simmed until my brains about leaked out of my ears. Oh, that and dishes, laundry, a batch of butter cookies (hey, I gotta make it all this year, can't buy it) to go into tins and some banana bread for noshing on this week (and not letting the bananas go to waste). Dinner. Scorched my right hand in a couple of places and abraded the left one.

Jim's got classes next Saturday - anyone want to help me drag out the decorations and stuff?

OH YEAH CARDS THAT. Man, I gotta run.
