I've gotten a call from [livejournal.com profile] being_homeless - she's gotten injured during a medical emergency on her flight into Chicago today. After being pleasantly insistent that she be seen, the airline put in a cab to the local hospital, where she is now waiting for her turn. She wasn't the medical emergency, but in getting clear to allow access to the crewmembers, she's borked a knee up, tripping over items left in the aisle (*face smacks*).

The airline is filling the report, but there won't be a claim number or anything a hospital can tie to for payment until Monday. (This is Southwest, BTW. They've been wonderful. But they are staying in business through cost-cutting measures like this, don't forget.)

She has at least two people there who were planning to host her while she was there, but she may need more assistance. She's not certain how she is going to get to them now that her original plan of travel from the airport has changed.

If you have Crystal's number and can help, I suggest you call her.

If you're in Chicago, and can help us out, email me and I will call you back.

Trying to reach [livejournal.com profile] geekdiva, who moderates the [livejournal.com profile] bh_friends.

Glad to hear her injuries weren't too bad... hopefully the emergency case ends up ok as well.

I'm in Chicago. What kind of help does she need? I'm just leaving now to review a show, but if she needs a place to stay, I can provide that. Email me at the addy in my profile and let me know how to reach her if she still needs help.

Unfortunately, I have no automobile, which may be the big hangup. But let me know.

Transportation is the big hangup - I don't think the ER visit is a question, but how does she get where she was going now that she's away from the subways?

She's thinking her only recourse is a taxi - is it?

[livejournal.com profile] geekdiva has minimal energy for LJ right now, but leaving a message in her own journal's usually better than a direct email.

She's in the middle of moving, and is pretty danged disabled herself, so you might not hear from her soon.

You know anyone out that way we can tap for a ride? That's really only what's missing -

I just linked to this on my own LJ, hoping folks notice. I know a few in Chicago, but I can't often remember who lives there vs. Detroit, St. Paul, etc.

Damn. If she flew Southwest, she probably flew into Midway...which is at least a two hour drive away. I'm guessing whatever hospital they took her to is local to that area.

Let me know if there's anything I can do, but there's probably someone closer. Plus I don't know that area well at ALL. :(

She did, and it is -

I don't know if you aren't closer - she was talking that most of the people she knew were at least an hour out.

Any suggestions?

The only thing I can suggest, if she's stuck taking a cab, would be to take a cab back to the airport. Airport rates are usually fixed, not metered*,and then she can go on with her original transportation plans.

*This may be different if you're close to an airport. I'm not certain.

No, I really don't - I'm hedging my bets that her original plans with those people can be modified to fit the situation!

I'm in chicago, and I'm one of the original crash space people... but I'm up a flight of stairs so I don't know that I am the best crash space any more.

she's way the bloody heck south by the way.

I did finally get her phone number.

"Bill & Ted's Excellent Airport" - I know, I know...

I'm sure she'll manage - if you guys have a plan to get her to you, I'll sleep better tonight - you need anything?

frankly, and I told her this- the other person who volunteered is up fewer stairs and, I think, has a cell phone, and has a more visitor-friendly house.

what she would need is a lift to my house, and the ability to climb a flight of stairs. and a way to get to midway tomorrow.

what I would need is to know WHEN she was getting to my place so I can, like, leave my house for a while. I just need to know yes or no. and I cannot get phone calls while on the computer, either.

The whole thing has been lacking structure - from the top down. *nods* I can certainly understand your frustration.

Do what you think best - I'm really handicapped being this far away!

she is fine- being picked up from the hospital and has a comfortable place to crash.

Glad this seems to have worked out. I'm up two flights, which I didn't even think about when I extended the offer, plus I live way the hell north side, which would also be a problem along with the "no car" thing.

Sending good thoughts that there are no more hassles from here on out!

OH, man, that's horrible.

I thought I gave the moderation of bhf to someone else--I remember changing the password to a temp one. What is needed?

I'm moving this weekend, making my illness worse and my time online difficult...
