His name?

Juan Manuel Alvarez. He's 25, used to live in Compton and after cutting his wrists, stabbing himself in the chest and parking his Jeep Cherokee, abandoned the vehicle on the tracks in front of an oncoming passenger train.

He's killed at least ten people today - not one of them him. Sent hundreds to the hospital. Occupied hundreds more rescue workers, investigators and Costco employees (YAH COSTCO!).

Spent a whole lotta my taxes.

Bitch.

It's been said I can use profanity well. Folks, this week I have been inspired. But it's time to share the glory.

That's right, the profanity lamp is LIT. Let fly. And no, this is not the time to warn the kiddies and tell people to cover their eyes.

You get points for refraining from using the 'seven words you can't say on television' - let's face it, they're overused. This is a male, too. You loose points if you insult his mother, his sex tools or any other female. *thinks* Female anything. Dirty bastard insults his mother, but has little to do with him. Think of something else.

Tell you what. I'll go first.

*ahem*

Juan.

You suck little dead rat chunks through a straw.

Backwards.

And thought it was boba tea.

I'd call you a waste of trace minerals, but I doubt I'd find any if I looked.

You left your brains in a pickle jar - stashed in the back of the refrigerator where nobody looks. You forgot them there a whole long time ago. Likely somebody pitched them because they'd begun to smell.

Sorry? No kidding. Newsflash of the decade.

May you live to over a hundred years of age - stuck behind a set of bars with a pervert who thinks Dial Soap makes a lovely enema. And a soup. And a lubricant.

And plays "Mmm Bop" by Hansen on infinite loop. At 12.

Not only did he do all that you said he did, he also wrecked two VERY NICE commuter trains and at least part of a freight train.

They need to throw the book at him, and hard enough to make anyone ELSE who considers doing this sort of thing think... more than twice.... about what they're doing.

And I'm pretty certain that, to borrow a phrase you used a few days ago, this waste of carbon didn't mean to kill 10 people but the fact remains that he DID...

I'm wondering whether he will actually end up on suicide watch for what he's done... and I wonder if anyone will lift a finger to stop him.

I know for certain that he's got people on two Metrolink lines royally pissed off at him (Ventura County and Antelope Valley both use that stretch of track) to say the very least.

And if I took either of those two, I would be too.

It doesn't matter whether he meant to kill 10 people or not. He did.

He might be able to get a lawyer smart enough to plead the 10 counts of murder down to reckless homicide, and who'll probably try the suicide sob story on for size. But since the standard of proof for criminal trials is beyond reasonable doubt, his lawyer is gonna have his work cut out for him if he's gonna claim he was so distressed he didn't know what he was doing. He was aware of the fact that a car parked on a track constitutes danger to both the occupant and the train, and he choose to regard his safety, while disregarding that of others.

He might not serve 10 life sentences, but he sure as hell isn't gonna go scot free. Any person sitting on a jury panel (and I doubt it'll even go that far... you get more leniency from making a deal, than from going in front of a jury for something like this) would be hard pressed to ignore that he was the worst kind of irresponsible. And that's all you need for reckless homicide. He might serve part of his sentence at a mental institution, but even that is better than leaving him out there so he can try this again. :/

Ummmm... where did I say that he was going to get off easy?

I don't remember saying that. Then again, I'm tired and may not remember it.

What I said - If I'm remembering right - is that they need to throw the book at him. And hard. Make him an example of what happens when someone gets a stupid idea like this - just the suicide attempt without the chickening out - goes wrong... and leaving a car on the train track... there's only one way it CAN go... and that is WAY wrong.

I'm guessing that if I went around and asked enough people on the Ventura County and Antelope Valley lines (those two trains share that stretch of track), I could organise a lynch mob, since he is sure as hell guilty of causing the derailment that killed 10 people, injured 200, and inconvienienced a whole hell of a lot more.

Metrolink has said that they won't have train service there "back to normal" (and they tend to run a tight operation... I know. i used to take it for a span of about 6 years) until Monday at the EARLIEST.

No, you didn't say that. I'm just saying in real life you can get in deep shit for doing things that aren't even remotely as bad as this.

Newsies are reporting that he's being charged for murder, and I'm just saying that's probably a bit of an exaggeration on their part: murder has to be willful and premeditated. This sounds like it was neither (at least the killing others part) so that charge would probably not stick in court: he's definitely going to jail, but he's probably not gonna end up in there for life. But hey, it's better than nothing.

Well, it's not illegal to commit suicide, but it's illegal to attempt to commit suicide. And they can get him on that at least.

But, what the fuck? He slit his wrists and stabbed himself in the chest, and that wasn't enough, he was still wandering around babbling "I'm sorry, I'm sorry," after he bailed from his car? The boy obviously wasn't serious about it: What was he using, a butter knife??? For crying out loud!

With as much damage as he did, I think death would be far too good for him.

But if he was locked up and tried to commit suicide, I'm not sure anyone would lift a finger to stop him.

But that's just me.

In cases where it's just a lone car on the track, and no one on the train is physically hurt . . . think about the poor engineer at the stick that moment? Whether it's his/her fault or not, someone died under her train wheels, and she'll live with that forever.

I do understand that some people are in that much pain that they need to make it stop -- or use it as a threat, or whatever -- or they're very ill. But it seems so callous to make others suffer too, let alone die. I wonder why Juan didn't just accelerate when he changed his mind.

According to the news report this morning, his car was stuck on the tracks.

But seriously, if it's that bad, just take some pills somewhere private - don't make others suffer.

Okay, here goes...

Juan, you bleeding rectal wart on the behind of an anemic elephant, you killed almost as many people today as G.W...

You stabbed yourself, you slit you're wrists and parked your car in front of an oncoming train and you STILL couldn't kill yourself?

You Donkey Raping Tampon Eating Buffoon! You are a Cancerous Sore on a 1 Balled Stallion! (I wasn't referring to his tool, I was referring to the horses! NO points lost!!!)

Okay folks! Top that!

I have only one thing to add to that... especially given the word that he chickened out of the whole train thing:

Juan, you train-derailing COWARD.

I think he's probably a very emotionally damaged young man, and here in America, we have almost no treatment available to people with such problems, especially among the poor.

I am not condoning what he did; rather the opposite, I am condemning it as completely wrong. However, as long as this nation continues to shit on the idea of providing health care, including mental health care, to all of our citizens, we will continue to have problems of this nature.

I am saddened that he hurt so badly that he wanted to end his life, and even more saddened that he chose such an awful and wrong way to do so.

OKay, here's my opinion just based on the story Unclejimbo posted in his LJ. He's not "depressed", he's an abusive, sociopathic control freak. He's been estranged from his wife for three months, with a restraining order against him. He's threatened "suicide" in front of his kid, and threatened violence against his wife and her family. I don't think that cockless waste of carbon (Gods I love that line!) ever intended to kill himself. It was all show, so the wife would feel bad and take him back. If he's "sorry", it's only because it turned out much worse than he planned, and he knows he's headed for the greybar motel, to share a cell with some really big guy named Bubba, who's gunna say "You're MY puppy, now!" That people were maimed and killed by his stupidity and selfishness has probably never even crossed his mind, beyond the problems it's going to cause him.

As for the profanities? Sorry, guys, but you two have turned that into a fine art that I can only hope to aspire to!

He would've done better just to drive off a cliff into the ocean. That way, at least, his body could've gone to use feeding the fish. Instead of ending others' lives untimely.

Juan,

You are a freak of self pitying, rancid whale blubber. You are but a boil on the face of an extremely filthy sewer rat.

May you find employment servicing your entire cell block. May they be blissfully unaware of the purpose of lubricant. May your paltry wages be used to educate future generations of your heinous crime against humanity.

You killed as many in one day as GW's war tends to, and they didn't even have the option to enlist in a hazardous occupation. GW will be known for starting a war with a man who insulted his daddy for revenge on his daddy's name and to finish business rational minds wouldn't let daddy conclude.

You don't even have that excuse. You've killed mothers, fathers, sons, and daughters. I wish you and GW could share a cell. That would be the perfect circle of hell for both of you. (That's not profanity, it's a literary reference.)

Your cowardice knows no bounds. If indeed you are mentally ill, which I doubt, you give mental illness a bad name. Reacting poorly because you can't get your way is not a mental illness. It's immaturity and if you harm others, it's evil.

As I actually have a mental illness, I know several people with the same and we are all offended that you give mental illness a bad name by claiming to have it. We all suppose that you are merely selfish, overbearing and evil. Evil, I say. Why is it that as soon as some one does something normal folks can not comprehend, everyone automatically says they are sick? That's not sickness, folks, its evil. You can not comprehend the depths of evil because you are not evil. He's evil. He may very well be sick, but he's primarily evil.

Juan, you are so pathetic, the worms will vomit instead of eating your dead flesh. You are more worthless than a bubo on a dead plague rat. Giardia parasites outrank you the way a tree outclasses the mole on Margaret Thatcher's left butt cheek.
