The public wants public broadcasting.

Spend money on peace, not war. Works for me.

At this point... even with MY lack of funding, I think I can manage to scrape together enough to give both KPCC and KCRW $50 each. After all, I listen to KCRW on weekdays and KPCC on weekends...

I've donated before, but haven't lately. And they do need the money.

Stupid GOP. NPR is NOT biased. SHEESH.

My mom would say that it's biased to the conservative side. She refuses to listen to it anymore, because she perceives that they cater to the GOP. Instead, she listens to the region equiv of KPFK and Air America.

Sorry to intrude, btw.

Personally, I've listened to KPFK... and they're doing the same type of "bias" except leaning towards the other side.

I do listen to Air America, but only to Randi Rhodes and Mike Malloy... and occasionally Al Franken.

NPR still gives more balance to coverage than, say, the news stations (CNN, FOX, MSNBC) or the national networks.

And at least NPR COVERS the fact that soldiers are DYING in Iraq.

There may be some bias, but NPR *DOES* Tread Carefully.

IMO anyway.

At least NPR didn't do the "All Michael Jackson All The Time" thing that the other media outlets did.

As for intruding... that's fine. I know I'm not the only opinionated one out there. *g*

C.

I agree, with you.

I haven't listened to KPFK either, for the same reason. I think being overly biased in one direction (regardless of the direction) can definitely be dangerous. And you're right about there being more balance in NPR, which is why I listen to it- althoug I have heard some rather disturbing stuff on either KCRW or KPCC. I mentioned my mom earlier, because while I wouldn't say she's the most liberal person (I think Kennedy still has her beat), it is amusing to hear her complain that NPR is too conservative.

Speaking of public radio, I know they don't do much as far as news is concerned, but I do give money to KKJZ too (because Chuck Niles was awesome, and they do have great programs available across the nation). There's KUSC, but I don't give to them, because it's sort of like the top 40 of classical. I love that this town has quite a few NPR stations to choose from (that wasn't the case where I came from), and even if mamacita doesn't, I'll still support public radio, because it's much better than Clear Channel and Faux News.

I just hope that NPR doesn't continue to get conservative. It's definitely become more so over the years. And man, I've heard some extremely racist stuff on KCRW- KPCC, (I have six npr stations I listen to with regularity, so I can't remember exactly which), on some of the local programming. One night, there was someone talking crap about the Armenians (Glendale/Pasadena area), and I was wondering how it managed to get onto an NPR station.

I'm thinking that it was likely local programming, and KPCC has call-in shows (Talk of the City - local, Talk of the Nation - which is NPR, Air Talk - local) while KCRW has "editorial" shows (Which Way LA - local, To the Point - national version of the same show)...

I'm not excusing the local programming, but KPFK has the same thing. Only they tend to bash people who don't agree with them. I have heard it. They also come across as extremely intolerant.

But that's in my experience only. Your mileage may vary.

Now that you mention it,

Maybe it was Which Way LA- and a particular commentator, whose name I forget. But that in mind, I guess it's a good wake-up call too. Just because it's LA doesn't mean we're a happy family, and the same show has good points to it (I'm just really REALLY bad with names, which is embarassing).

As for KPFK: Honestly, I've never listened to KPFK, although a group I work for is 'all about KPFK.' Considering your description (and that of my mummy's), I'll probably steer clear away from KPFK though. Thx for the heads up.

Btw, while not informative, I love 'Metropolis' on KCRW, and just had to share. It's cool to compare things with other locals, so thanks for the feedback.

Your icon is lovely, by the way.

No problem. =)

Thank you. It's an [livejournal.com profile] apod picture I cropped down and flipped over because it looked better this way. *g*

Do you mind if I friend you? There isn't a disclaimer on my journal, but it's friends only and locked down pretty tightly. Oh, yes, and word of warning: I'm opinionated. *g*
