(03:29:15 PM) konanut: Like it's some generic flavor or something.
(03:29:26 PM) SchoolCait: *nod*
(03:29:36 PM) SchoolCait: taco pizza. Several places around here offer it
(03:29:43 PM) SchoolCait: I'd NEVER HEARD OF IT before last July
(03:31:14 PM) konanut: *laughs*
(03:31:32 PM) konanut: There is a killer recipe for taco quiche - but I lost it. Lawry's seasonings issued it.
(03:31:37 PM) SchoolCait: *nod*
(03:31:55 PM) konanut: It's just one of those - "we don't want the real thing, it's too ethnic" midwest thang.
(03:32:02 PM) SchoolCait: *snicker*
(03:32:05 PM) konanut: So make it look safe...like a pizza.
(03:32:16 PM) SchoolCait: the midwest pallete is... kinda boring
(03:32:21 PM) SchoolCait: that's what I'm finding out
(03:32:22 PM) konanut: *laughs*
(03:32:32 PM) konanut: Suggest a spam and cheese curd pizza.
(03:32:39 PM) SchoolCait: Do you know how difficult it is to find a DECENT SIZED jar of curry powder?
(03:32:40 PM) konanut: Oh wait.
(03:32:52 PM) konanut: Yeeees - I grew up in Hemet.
(03:32:57 PM) SchoolCait: *sn8
(03:34:06 PM) SchoolCait: Spam and cheese curd pizza sounds good
(03:34:26 PM) SchoolCait: of course, I like cheese curds and gravy on french fries, so... * shrug*
(03:34:58 PM) konanut: But then again, in CA - we put anything on pizza.
(03:35:05 PM) SchoolCait: there is that
(03:35:12 PM) SchoolCait: peking duck
(03:35:21 PM) SchoolCait: thank you CPK *wry*
(03:35:25 PM) konanut: They'd probably dig spam sushi.
(03:35:39 PM) SchoolCait: I need to figure out how to make that myself
(03:35:40 PM) konanut: Bologna sushi.
(03:35:46 PM) SchoolCait: eh, spam over bologna
(03:35:52 PM) konanut: Word.
(03:36:06 PM) konanut: Grilled cheese sushi.
(03:36:18 PM) SchoolCait: that sounds good
(03:36:39 PM) konanut: I should slap myself, but yeah - particularly if you grill the rice balls first.
(03:36:53 PM) SchoolCait: heh
(03:36:55 PM) konanut: Take THAT to the next potluck. *laughs*
(03:36:59 PM) SchoolCait: *makes note to get rice*
(03:37:13 PM) konanut: Uncle Ben's Converted or nuthin'
(03:37:24 PM) SchoolCait: no...
(03:37:28 PM) SchoolCait: calrose!
(03:37:47 PM) konanut: Amurican!
(03:37:51 PM) SchoolCait: I don't like long grin rice
(03:37:54 PM) konanut: *laughs*
(03:38:00 PM) SchoolCait: grain that should be
(03:38:02 PM) konanut: I should so post this.
(03:38:04 PM) SchoolCait: silly fingers
(03:38:07 PM) SchoolCait: go ahead
(03:38:12 PM) konanut: Calrose is grown up near Santa Barbara...
(03:38:31 PM) konanut: So - it's still questionable, being from California...but it's not furrin.

Taco quiche? And I must say, California Pizza Kitchen sucks! Yuck. Overpriced luke-warm blech.

Booga booga.

Take some tube steaks. Split down the middle. Stuff with mashed potatoes, spam and top with Kraft slices - broil until cheese melts. Serve with ranch dressing.

You can follow on with some Krispy Kreme bread pudding. Worst white trash cooking EVAR.

You know, if the Jones Soda Company hasn't done that yet, I'd be very surprised.

[livejournal.com profile] caitlin should have some Old Chicago Pizzerias near her. They do have a good pizza that is sort of like a "taco pizza," has bbq chicken (though I usually omit that), chilis, beans, and cheddar cheese. I'm forgetting a couple of ingredients, but that one should satiate the "taco pizza" thingy.

As for your quiche? You know what goes into tacos, you don't need a stinking Lawry's recipe. Just your nearby Jons, or even Ralphs 'ethnic isle' for the appropriate spices: cilantro, cumin, paprika, chilis, other peppers, meat of choice, and appropriate cheeses.

Always experiment in the kitchen. No written recipe required.

This was one of the best "stuff it in the oven for an hour while you talk to your Mamma" recipes for a Sunday brunch evar.

Because while the prep was 20 minutes - it took an hour and a half to bake and they weren't kidding.

Good times - and today? I'd have to make a wee one because Jim won't eat anything spicier than salt and peppered (and not even much of that) anything.
