SAN FRANCISCO - The woman seen dropping her young sons into San Francisco Bay pleaded innocent Friday to three counts of murder.

Lashuan Harris, described as mentally ill by family members, kept her head down and held her public defender's hand through most of the brief court hearing. She quietly answered "yes" when the San Francisco Superior Court judge asked if she was willing to waive her right to a speedy preliminary hearing.

Harris, 23, faces three counts of murder with special circumstances, making her eligible for the death penalty.

Her lawyer, Teresa Caffese, refused to address questions about Harris' mental state, saying only her client was under suicide watch. She's being held without bail.

"It's very, very difficult," Caffese said. "This can't be captured in words right now."

Authorities said Harris, a former nurse's assistant who was living in a homeless shelter, was seen putting her three boys in the bay Wednesday.

This is a mother who lost custody of her children once - because she was hospitalized for schitzophrenia. Her mother was granted custody - and less than six months ago, asked to have it back - because her daughter had stopped taking her medication.

Haldol.

I'm sorry. You need that to control any part of your mental state, you really don't need anything but a padded cell.

That's what they give the violently mentally ill to keep them killing anyone coming near them. Ask Rita Hayworth's daughter about caring for her mother in her last days with Alzeheimer's, and having to resort to Haldol to keep her calm.

I have every reason to believe that once she got those children over the edge, that mother was going to follow them. Killing her? Probably what she wanted in the first place. Boy, that's going to solve something!

Watch the caseworker get called in next - and blamed.

Truth of the matter? Somebody is that ill, they need following. For that kind of diagnosis, life-long. You want them to live, that is.

One of my cheap frugal tips for arranging travel is to use Best Westerns (with a AAA Tour Guide for assistance) when you can't Priceline a hotel room.

Well, what do you know. Best Western, as a hotel company, is eBaying accomodations for hurricane relief. And some other things, which look like they were donated by license owner/operators. It's very cool.

Best Western has its own philanthropic organization - Best Western for A Better World (it's listed on the auction descriptions) and they are donating 85% of the proceeds to the Red Cross.

I see some locations on places I have to go in the next six months. I might be able to hit two targets this way - but go take a look. Best Western is international, after all.

You know, after reading entry after entry about the means used to Leave Town, both in Texas and Louisiana in the path of the hurricanes - that private pilot's license sounds like a pretty damn good plan in case we have to leave this place in a hurry.

Because, well. I know the roads available here. Trust me. I'd do better with a stagecoach.

I could just build a lot with the family name "Hurricane" - populate it with Andrew, Frances, Katrina and Rita, then nuke it out of existence.

[livejournal.com profile] firez, you heard from your friends in Corpus?

Houston SPCA has to be evacuating - this is just nuts.

News is in the papers today. Since none of these stores are near corporate, they're shipping a limited amount here to the office. I'll go pick one up before I go home today.

And the office here raised over $10,000 by itself, which was matched by the company. Go us!

Love my job. Love, love my job.

Okay, the word is in from work.

10,000 pairs of shoes. That's more than what we found on 9/11 for the emergency workers in New York.

They're still negotiating a promotion with one of our larger customers for a fun-raiser. Shh. Can't tell you who yet. Will when I can.

But.

They're setting the coffee cans out and will match everything 100% until Saturday.

Uh, I'm getting on a plane Thursday night and will be out Friday.

No time for eBay.

What have I got that I can hawk from here - or get IOUs for - before then?

Well, I can go turn in the recyclables tomorrow.
Anybody want a disk full of Sims2 Sims? I got plenty with three generations of lineage. Ask me.
Bake you something - send you care packages at school if you're in the dorms....
Make you a grab bag of used books - mostly science fiction & fantasy, but I might throw some cookbooks in there.

Anything really crafty requires photographs and I don't have the time - really, just believe me on this one. I'm a little blonde blur right now, as is.

Postcard Of The Month Club?

Help me out here. Make me an offer.
