2/3/62 - that means he'd have been 43 today?

Inconceivable. I'd have never gave him that long - and the more years pass, the further and further away he becomes. His place in my memory becomes more static, and I think of things both good and bad that have come since because he has gone. Not in terms of why he was here. Or was here at all - unfair as that is.

I take him with me every day. My job title could be rewritten to include "engineer" and I can hear him laughing. I look at travelling internationally and shrug. I fear little these days - blame him.

I miss him - and I'm glad he's not here. He missed 9/11 - and everything since, and I think he's better off for it.

And I think - that's the just the way of it. In any case, nobody is asking me what I think of it -

You have no idea.

Honestly - I got tagged for the 5 weird quirks meme, and I have fifteen minutes to do it in. Heartsent called Wednesday, informed me that their director is going to be in town Friday and would we come in for our personal interview? You want me to come in - gee, let me think a moment about this....

Their offices are in converted Pasadena bungalows - go ahead. Throw me in the briar patch. Gwan.

Five quirks, huh?

1. Go ahead. Put a fried egg in front of me. I will neatly slice the white from yolk, eat the white first, and pop the entire yolk into my mouth, unbroken. I'm anal like that.

2. I am incredibly motion sensitive. I get rabidly seasick without medication, and I don't have a waterbed today because I get disoriented sleeping on them. Like, terrified disoriented. After two tries at this, I gave up sleeping on waterbeds. Loop coasters? The universe laughs at you. No. I really don't like heights and speed at the same time under the best circumstances - no, this little chickie-boo ain't gonna be an astronaut.

3. I have no phobias for anything living. That includes spiders, snakes, worms, rodentia...whatever. Freeway overpasses? Uh, do I really have to go that way?

4. I read faster than anyone I know. Test me.

5. Jim's here. Gotta go. Don't want to be late.

Okay, you know who's birthday it is today.

And you know where I went this evening. And you know how frickin' on my last nerve I've been about this whole adoption thing.

They want us to get through the home study process as soon as possible. They have two boys in Taiwan they'd like to consider as placements for us.

We could be parents by Memorial Day. Like, six years to the weekend Jim came out here to live with me. And have the second placement from China before the end of the year.

I could have my kids - both of them - by the end of summer.

All I had to do was find a better agency. All I had to do was turn to the internet.

*blows air* Folks, this is how I found Jim. On my last nerve and ready to throw in the towel. So I go looking on the internet -

Yeah, I know when Cliff's been by. Shit happens.

Little shit.

(The only thing holding up the process is funding - which is a matter of process now, I talked to the loan officer this afternoon. I'm detailing the house tomorrow - and getting things cleaned up, no other way to put it. Expect fund raising to start in earnest ASAP.)

I'm going to Taiwan. I'm going to China.

I am. So stoked.

And...unbelieveably relieved. Finally.
