The name of the agency we met with today was Heartsent. The biggest issue I see today is paying for it all. I have to give them credit - they don't post the fees involved on the website. They do discuss them as soon as you are ready to talk about them - which I think shows a bit more class. Everyone knows the process costs money. You aren't here if you haven't discovered that having children outside of getting pregnant costs money - lots of it.

But we also discovered that our experience with DCFS wasn't unusual - far from it. One couple had spent fifteen years with them and didn't manage a placement.

We get through this process? And we've already been told it isn't as demanding - we're in. We will have a child at the end of it.

How much money? Think of us buying another car. About that much.

Where? I can think of two to three places to pull from - and most of that will have to wait until Monday.

Suffice it to say, I'm going to be looking for things to raffle/auction off to raise funds.

And it was a very nice afternoon.

Jim's doing impressions of the probe on its way to Pluto this morning. It involves speed lines and "holy fuck, who lit a match?!"

OH - prayers worked yesterday. Someone mentioned Ninentendo being the Apple of the handheld world? Can you say Apple Store at the same place that Lickety Split was at? Where I got my Mac Mini?

My AC:WW friends code is 1718-6240-6872. My town's name is El Lay, and my character's name is Soleil. Go for it.

There was also a "healthy eating alternative" spot called Tacone in plain view - and for $6, roughly, I had a wrap, a small bowl of soup and a drink. The wrap was more chicken than anything else, including flavor (grilled or grilled and steamed chicken - tender, but tasteless) but the soup was good, for mass-produced "homestyle" soup. They also put handfull of thick-cut potato chips in there - and I couldn't help but note that they were cooked a bit too long for most people's taste. (Ever look for the really overcooked brown chips in the bag? I do - but I don't know many people like me.)

Lickety-Split was a very tiny place that had more food than ice cream. And like most things in Manhattan Village? Waaay too much. But I have a place Jim can salve his frozen custard jones if he ever needed to (it's something of a mid-western thing - never ran into the stuff before going back to St. Louis that first time).

Got word at work yesterday that my cube-mate next door, the oldest person in our department? His wife had their first child the day before - something of an unexpected event, and he'd kept it under his hat for nearly the entire pregnancy. I think he was concerned that the pregnancy wouldn't end in a viable baby - and I truly believe he thought he was going to be childfree his entire life. She's 6 lbs and change, 16" long and unnamed at the moment. And Barry has almost ten years on me. His wife is from Thailand - and they've been married .. um .. gee. A looong time - but for all of his "hurr hurr I'm de man" talk, he refers to her still as "his bride" - and worships the ground she walks on.

Yeah, yeah - with all the shit going on with us, there's been a baby derby going on at work. (There's another guy up in web development waiting for his wife to go into labor as we speak.) I envy Barry his Y chromosome that allows him the option of having children so easily, older than me. He didn't want this - and I'm struggling like hell. *laughs* Ain't no justice in THIS game, chitlins.

In other news, being able to climb into a pre-warmed bed with a DS and playing until tired is a pretty good way to end the day this week.

Happy birthday to [livejournal.com profile] weemallard, [livejournal.com profile] honormac and [livejournal.com profile] cecylyna. Post something or I'll nudge you.

*hangs head in shame* I love the new nudge feature. Yes, I have used it already. Yes, I will likely use it again. Soon. Somebody stop me.

Burning stabby hate directed towards the vendor who said they still had MarioKart DS bundles, even took my money - and never shipped the item. Found out yesterday and at lunch, went out to Target and got a non-blue DS, went home and slapped a Hello Kitty sticker on it. THERE - that's my custom DS and that's the end of it.

Also have AC:WW for both DS' in the house - and I've got my Nintendogs up and running already (Corgi!).

It's so nice it goes in the purse like it does. Just what it needed - another paperweight.

There will likely be some notes that will go behind a filter later today - but last night was the last night of therapy, and unless something else goes awry that I didn't see coming, we're going to get our certification sometime this week or next at the latest.

Just like that. Yeah, I'll be certain when it's in my hands - even though everyone is assuring me that it's in the bag. Hello, two years in the works!

We have orientation with another agency on Saturday - a private agency that does nothing but international placements.

Last night was dinner at Lucille's, which included beer. Beer was veddy veddy good. (So's the ambient music too - let alone the food.) Went home, popped the heat pack into the microwave, then tucked it in at the foot of the bed and snuggled in to get acquainted with my DS. Jim's just waiting for that Pluto mission to get underway - I fell asleep watching him reading the website.

[livejournal.com profile] catsonmars is coming over tonight before heading back to school - wow, nothing says the party's over than going back to the grind parties.

And now, I go to work.

Ooog. Had a day off and it was loverly. However, since I did nothing, the stuff is all still here to go. Oh, well.

Also, I'm female. That means I have about two weeks left before getting a chance to Change Everything -

And tomorrow? The hair, she gets cut. I'm donating it to Locks of Love and getting something short and sassy. I tried to come up with a good reason to keep the long hair (and it brushes below the waistband of the jeans now) - and outside of the off chance I might want to dress up in something, I couldn't come up with a good idea. That's not enough reason to keeping getting hair caught in everything. Also, put it up? Can't drive comfortably. Stupid seats have no place for my head NOT to rest. Bleh.

Monday.

Also, on Sims2? Playing against type is HARD.

I called it off. Call it intuition, call it fear of the 'August Curse' - I got the worst case of cold feet this morning, and decided to push the insemination try off until next cycle.

One, it's not free. And money, while it's not hurting, is tight right now. I'd rather be in a better place, financially. It won't take six months to get to, but we're not there today. Hey, you don't get into your forties and remain childless, when you want them, if you aren't a little paranoid.

Two, we haven't gotten day care nailed down. And that is going to be crucial. Neither of us can stop working, and if we can't work and see something after paying for childcare, we definitely have an issue we have to come to terms with.

Three, I've looked at too many couples who just jumped into having kids (or more of them) - and it ruined them. I think we're still at risk for that. I think we're always going to be at risk for that. It's the bloody unknown - and it's not the kids that worry me.

And then, it doesn't help that my first set of Sims in the first Sims2 family I built? The father killed himself fixing the television set while his wife was pregnant with their second kid - by the time the first kid was in first grade, the social worker had taken both of the kids, and the wife died a bitter old woman - the end.

*brrr*

Okay. Try again in September.
