It is so quiet here today.

And cold. I'm sitting on my hands intermittently to keep from shivering. The sky is a perfect blue, dry as a bone and so cold it makes your teeth ache.

I could be home watching anime until my eyes bleed. Oh, well.

What did I get Jim for Christmas?

Trigun. ALL of it.
Cowboy Bebop. ALL of it.
Fushigi Yugi (He likes it, shush). ALL of it.
Rayearth (I'm curious...sue me). ALL of it.

I got him Faulty Towers (ALL of it). I got him the Tom Hanks/Spielberg Space series.

I could be home. But no, I'm at work.

And cold.

~*whine*~ )

I will be better prepared next year. Some people should fear. Interrupt? No. Compliment the existing situation, yes. I'll have more than 48 hours next year.

As for today, I could have phoned it in. I'm going to go dust some shelves and catch up on combing the cat.

My brother-in-law is so happy with Bush because he can send his kid wherever he wants to, if he wants him to go to a better school.

Then is angry because the Pomona School District has people who don't want to administer or teach at a school with unknown test scores because they are already at one with good ones. Well, since their very survival is based on those scores, it makes sense. However, he doesn't see that. He can just pay for whatever he wants, wherever he wants.

My nephew is a very bright kid with nearly perfect grades and needs the additional academics. But his father doesn't have to work with anyone to improve his schools and won't. Just find the school we want for him - screw everyone else. They're all idiots.

Between him and Sis, they make six figures and then some. At 13, my nephew will be accompanying him to Japan when he gives his next seminar. I'm grateful he's a good kid - he's getting every possible opportunity handed to him. None of it is wasted on him.

I have a direct line to my desk at work that is mirrored by one in another area code to a clinic that provides, among other others, abortions. I've had this line for almost two years - the types of calls I get are interesting, to say the least. In case you're wondering, the number of women calling to schedule terminations is in the very least minority of the ones I field.

But I got one this morning. The poor woman sounded like she'd lost all hope. Day after Christmas. You write the script.

I'm not asking for fair. But all it takes is money, y'know?

(And no, I never try to talk anyone out of it.)

The Segway, a $4,950 self-balancing scooter, gets employees around faster and inspires envy.

Can you imagine doing the park with a Segway? Oh, I can. I sure hope that's what they're planning -

Doctors, dentists, pharmacists and others in the health-care industry have been stealing huge sums from California's $25-billion Medi-Cal program despite increased state and federal efforts to combat fraud.

Not the poor saps who have to wait hours, fill out 25 pages of personal data and have the government search up their asses with a microscope...monthly...to receive a pittance in Medi-Cal benefit.

No, just keep jumping the hoops. Meanwhile, after being short-paid for everything, someone finds a way to get more than their share out of the system.

Again, we're back to survival - "I got mine - screw you!"

Lovely attitude.

From [livejournal.com profile] infojunkies -.

I need to go back, back, back to find the source and verify it - but this rings so true, I want to keep it handy.

Good for students of the mass media, brain chemistry and everything inbetween.

Went to the bank at lunch. Guy crossing the parking lot was wearing shorts, and a t-shirt, the gray athletic variety.

He must have tipped the scales over 400 lbs. EASY.

Shorts, running shoes and everything. Coming out of Bally's.

What did the shirt say?

"I see small people."

I hope he runs for office someday.
